Систематизирующий курс фонетики английского языка (English Phonetics course)

Nadezhda Litonina

авторский курс

The course is devoted to English pronunciation and intonation: English vowels and consonants, assimilation, accommodation, elision, and intonation in English sentences. As the course does not focus on transcription, learners need to have some background in it. Before jumping into the sounds, they take the time for the introductions to the anatomy of speech and general characterization of speech sounds. Then, they learn how to produce English sounds and practice each sound in context. You are guided through all the speech sounds of British English and told how to practice further. Alongside studying each sound, this course also looks at other extremely important areas: connecting your speech (assimilation, accommodation, and elision), stress, and intonation.
The main course goal is to help learners improve their pronunciation and soften their accent. Learners will be able to track their gradual progression as from the very beginning they will work on the text that they will choose for their final oral presentation, first by improving the pronunciation of English sounds and their clusters, then rhythm, and finally, intonation pattern.
Course goals:
1. Learners will improve their pronunciation and soften their accent by articulating English sounds correctly and using appropriate intonation patterns.
2. Learners will understand the general phonetic terms and use them appropriately.
3. Learners will understand and be able to describe basic phonetic processes, such as accommodation, assimilation, elision, etc.
